I sailed through seven seas and I've searched in leap and bound
To find some satisfaction in how the world keeps going around
I found a group of sailormen and songs were duly sung
The seas that lay before us then rang through with drunken lung
They say sailormen don't work too hard, sailorman can't live
They say nothing great of sailormen, they have naught to give
But sailorman still sailors on, And weds and loves the same
Makes some kids and sailors through, With sailboat to his name
Now, men of stature go to school, to earn the better life
The engineer that earns it all, with chance to know no strife
Still engineer won't think things through, he'll gamble life away
and engineer won't take his time, to 'ppreciate today
I had no clue what it all meant but then it got real late
I sailed away and said goodbye and thought I'd celebrate
But then a wave of thought swept through and hit my furrowed brow
And shook me deep enough that I had to put away my prow
It struck me all at once that the world chugs onward with a grin
For treasures true are me and you when soaked with love and sin
Iv'ry towers might contain the cushions we enjoy
But not a thing could help fulfill the feelings we employ
When we stop and sing and find a friend to waste some time away
to give us stock of memory for when we're old and gray
I took my ship and sailed along with eyes out for a friend
They're all I need for when I'm on a journey without end
